First Day of Clinical

You might be nervous, feel adrenaline running through your body - or it might be something that you want it to be done before the day even begins. Nursing is a calling, and while the pay is good- do not step into this profession if you do not have a passion for your patients and what you're doing... it's easy to feel swallowed whole otherwise. 

 Clinical was great! I can only disclose so much that I was exposed to as a right to my patient. But I had a great time. Within the first hour, I felt my heart swell... knowing truly that this field (in all it's glory) is something that I am so excited to be a part of. Family and friends always insisted I would be better as a lab rat, but in fact, I adore direct patient care.

While nursing is a science and has A LOT of studying and hard work behind it... pay attention to your heart and what you're passionate about- it can take you far.

If you're just starting nursing school- clinical can seem like something you're running towards right now besides graduation. Do not rush it, the information that you're gathering now is some of the most important pieces that are building a foundation for the rest of your courses. If you breeze through it without truly retaining it, you will have to work doubly hard to achieve success.  

 Overall- enjoy the experience, ask questions (without saying sorry for asking) and take charge as a nurse!

Many of those who walk through the doors of nursing school are already predisposed to be analytic, task-oriented, and able to synthesize information. While that might be handy for the job or many of the things that we are taught throughout the education process when it comes to deliverables those can be some harmful traits to have. Yes, it is fun to have many of the necessary deliverables done ahead of time, and to being offloading so most of your work is done ahead of time... if only there was this work ethic and ease in high school... but in nursing school, everything is given at a certain time for a reason. Sure, you can work up to your first exam, but you might be hindering yourself if you get TOO ahead. Currently, I am working up to each exam, but trying not to get ahead of myself. I am currently trying to gain my GPA some cushion points (in Adult Health no less...) by only offloading to a certain point so that I can stay focused on the information that is on the next exam. ...

Get Pumped!

Per usual- it's been a bit since I've posted on my blog and I wanted to give a slight life update into the projects that have been on my plate. Since the start of The Non-Profit, it has been hard work trying to juggle each avenue of what needs to be done. - Somehow the list never ends, but the excitement grows with it! We are currently trying to grow our audience, partnerships, and investments across the board. We have many goals and the partnerships we have formed just make me more and more excited for the future to come. More so, school is exciting but I am clinging onto the edge of my seat! Everything is hectic and crazy as usual!

Going to the Capitol Building

Last Tuesday, 1/15/2019, I had the extraordinary opportunity to go to the Capitol building with the Staff of my school to talk to our representatives about some of the legal action that nurses need within our field. Two examples of what we talked about are: APRN being able to order imaging studies in all cases (not just emergency)  Tax credit needs to be given to nursing preceptors  We were able to meet with GNA (Georgia Nurses Association) to go over what our mission is, after that, I was able to drop the gifts we brought into the offices of the representatives I was given. Next, we entered the capitol building. After going through security we made our way to the Georgia House of Representatives floor and sent pages to get our representatives.
